Three TED-Talk-Perspectives on Creativity and Happiness

List making – the design approach

Graphic designer Stefan Sagmeister takes the audience on a journey through moments of his life that made him happy. Renowned for album covers, posters and his recent book of life lessons, designer Stefan Sagmeister invariably has a slightly different way of looking at things. I also like the idea to have lists for e.g. ‘things in my life I have done so far’

Collecting – The storytelling approach

Jonathan Harris is an artist and storyteller working primarily on the Internet with a human approach. He is using computer science, statistics, story telling and visual arts as tools. His works include projects like the lyrical Balloons of Bhutan or the storytelling platform and ‘public library of human experience’ Cowbird.

Flow – the scientific approach

Mihaly Czikszentmihalyi asks what’s the source of happiness? And his answer comes down to this: Beyond a certain point (and it’s not very far), money doesn’t affect happiness too much. Rather, as his research shows, we tend to be most happy when we get immersed, almost lost in, being creative and performing at our best. It’s an ecstatic state that he calls “flow.”

Best 10 principles in design, business and more – any suggestions?

Is there any need for rules, principles, commandments? How can guiding principles help you to make better decisions?

I just set up a mindmap with the most inspiring 10 principles that come up my mind when designing or thinking. Some of them have more than 10. For me it is an interesting starting point while doing something, although personally Creative Companion Nr. 10 is the one for me.

It’s a map in progress, have a look, any suggestions?
